run run run

So I have ran 2 days in a row!  I know, shocker!  The only problem is that I only ran a few miles.  I feel like I am starting back at ground zero with running.  I am not sure if I am just giving up early and starting to walk.  Or if I really am having issues with running.  It looks like today may be a great day for a run so I might be shooting for 3 days in a row.  Fingers crossed that the humidity doesn't sneak up on me today.

The parents are coming down to visit this weekend.  They are bringing their little puppy with them, so Riley will be entertained all weekend.  My step dad is going to fix my fence gate and then we are headed to the Pirates v the Nats on Sat.  It is supposed to be super hot and humid over the weekend, so I am hoping we don't melt.

Happy Running Everyone!

sweaty mess

The Tim Harmon 5K went great on Saturday!  It wasn't too hot, although it was hotter than I realized.  Last year the run was miserable.  So no real complaints this year.  The only problem I had was that Steeler tickets went on sale while I was at the race. What to do, what to do.  So after the race I ended up calling people to find someone to log on to my ticket master account to try for Steeler tickets. I know, who knows if there is going to be a season, but if there is, December 8th I will be there watching the Cinci/Steelers game :)  It was amazing how many people didn't answer their phone.  Finally I got ahold of Zack.  Since he is dating Grab and we go to the games together I figured he would log on for me.  Thankfully he did, because Grab didn't end up getting the Dec. 24th tickets that we were hoping for.  While I was waiting to see if Zack scored some tickets I was also waiting to see if my number was going to be called for some door prizes!  Oh you know how I love door prizes.  Turned out this was not my year, but Megan a burrito and kids meal from Mo's.  So all was not lost.  It was a great day for a run.

Today my iphone came curitsey of FedEx!  Yeah!!  I was so excited.  So I think I am going to track my exercise and food on my iphone!  That will be so much easier than my small notebook that I carry around and end up not writing anything in it.  I did end up running and walking the neighborhood.  Not to bad.  I ddi feel like I was going to die the second time I trucked up the hill, but it was ok.  I also noticed as I was walking around the neighborhood that I have a lot of crotch sweat.  Gross.  It looked like I had some issues.  I guess that could explain why my thighs chafe. Usually it is boob sweat..but not so tonight.   Maybe as I keep tracking my food I will see the thighs get smaller (along with other parts of my body)

Well I am off to watch "Are you fitter than a Senior?"   It should be a good show.

My favorite 5K and the gym

So I have headed back to the gym this week.  I ran a bit on the treadmill and then I headed to the StairMaster.  I think I might start to like the StairMaster.  I figure I can work on my legs and butt.  I then ended with the bike.  Not too bad.  I was very very sweaty too.  I have this weird thing with sweat.  I love to see the sweat on the treadmill because I feel like if it is dripping off of me, I am obviously having a great workout.  Well the sweat was dripping on the treadmill and that poor StairMaster.  So I guess it was a pretty good workout.

Tomorrow is the Tim Harmon 5K race in Fairfax.  It is a pretty small race.  Last year they had lots of trophy and medals for age group winners and door prizes for those of us non-winners.  I ended up winning a great 30 dollar gift card to a local restaurant.  I LOVE DOOR PRIZES!!!  They also have an oldies band, The Sock Monkeys, playing.  You can't beat the atmosphere.  The only problem I see is that tickets go on sale for Steelers at 10 am so I hope I can get the tickets and still win some door prizes.  This is where an iPhone would come in handy. Shoot my iPhone is not coming till Monday..figures.

I also made a new play list to run to.  I hope between the different gym routine and the new play list I will get out of my running funk. :)

Every day is a Saturday

So School is out!!  Yeah..except I have signed up for summer school.  I figured it is easy money and it is only 3 weeks in July for 4 1/2 hours a day.  Right now everyday is a Saturday!!  I love not working during the summer!!  I am still trying to get back into the groove of running/working out.  I have been a regular at run club and I did go to the gym this morning (followed by run club this evening).  I have made a promise to myself to try and watch my portions and what I am eating this summer.  So far it hasn't been that bad.  Fingers crossed.  I gained a good 5 lbs the last few weeks of school, so I am working on getting rid of them, which would be easier if I was in the mood to workout.  I think I may take Riley on a nice hike tomorrow if the weather is nice.  Since I have been out of the blogging world for awhile I am going to leave everyone with some pictures of what I have been up to. :)  Enjoy and happy running!

slow

So I have not really been running.  I think I am in a running funk.  I just haven't felt the need.  I did attempt a run on Sat.  It was a sad sad run.  I barely made it 2 1/2 miles.  My legs felt heavy and I was just so tired.  I think 80 year old men have more energy than I have lately.  I came home and took a four hour nap.  (I know can you still call it a nap after 4 hours?)  I even missed lunch, which really is not me.  I love my mealtimes.  I don't normally miss a feeding at all :)  But on Saturday I missed lunch but enjoyed a lovely 4 hour nap.  I may have to start all over with my running after school lets out this week.  Maybe I will start to get up a bit earlier to run.  Really would just like to be back to the running groove.

Endurance race anyone??

So last Friday I had my New Kids On The Block Concert.  I got home at 12:30, took  a shower and I was in bed by 1 am.  At 3 am. the alarm went off, I took Riley out and had some "breakfast".  Not sure if it can be called breakfast or a midnight snack when it happens at 3:15 am.  I was out the door after that and headed to Megan's house to then head over to Great Falls to meet the crew volunteering for the local Northface endurance race.  I guess it was a good thing that we were meeting at Megan's because her alarms did not go off.  So my phone call at 4am say "I'm here!!" was the wake up call she was looking for.  Becky arrived shortly after and by 4:15 we were off hating life and wondering why we ever agreed to volunteer for  a race that lasts all day.

When we got to Great Falls we saw the 50 mile runners starting off with their headlamps on.
here they come

We meet up with everyone and then head out to our aid station.  Once there Northface Brett doles out the jobs.  Looks like Megan and I will be keeping track of the 50k runners as they head in to the 7 mile loop.  Becky is paired with Whitaker and they are in charge of the marathon.  The 50K runners will not start to show up until around 9am.  So we are the cheering squad until our runners show up.  We help set up the aid station with food and drink.
Megan is crazy for Nanners...

Becky and Whitaker could take a nap while waiting for the marathon group to hit our station.

Is that our runners??!!  I think it is!!  Oh wait I think it is just a squirrel.
It was really fun cheering on all the runners and talking to their family members that were waiting.  Once Becky realized that their names were on their bibs...she really enjoyed freaking them out cheering them on by name.  It was a little nerve racking trying to keep track of everyone's numbers.

two of the crazy 50 milers

It was a great day to volunteer.  I was amazed at how relaxed the runners appeared to be.  I didn't see many people that looked to be hurting too badly.  I know if I was running that distance I would look like I was dying.  I loved seeing all the families there too.  It really takes a family to commit to running such a long distance. So many families brought coolers of food, change of clothes or shoes for their runner.  I will never run a crazy distance like 50 miles, but I would definitely volunteer again.

Day 1 of going sans Sugar..

So the day went pretty good going sugar free...except for the small..tiny...itty bitty Hershey kiss that I accidentally popped into my mouth.  I was walking past the bookkeepers office and she always has a bit of chocolate in a dish by her door.  Well I just snatched one while I was walking by.  I didn't even know what I was doing until I threw the wrapper away and swallowed that evil little kiss.  Opps...day one and I was doing so well.  Thanks Hershey!  Not feeling too bad.  I would have liked a soda while eating out with Susan, but other than that I am doing pretty good.

I didn't run on National Run Day...opps..  Well I can't after I went out to dinner.  Nobody wants to see me throw up on a treadmill.  So no run today.  Hopefully I will get in a run tomorrow.  Or Zumba..one or the other will happen tomorrow. :)
