running? What's that?

So not a lot of running this week.  I was forced to run at run club by Becky.  I was so tired I didn't think I could get the energy to actually run, but we slogged it out.  Slow and steady...ugh..  This has been a horrible week.  I have felt like crap since Sunday afternoon.  Well turns out I figured out why on Wednesday morning.  Holy headcold Batman! On my way to work I stopped to pick up some cough syrup/head cold stuff.  I had a staff meeting, but really my head was much more important than arriving on time to a staff meeting.  Turns out I wasn't really that late, so all in all a pretty good move.

I tried the Musinex cough syrup.  If you see this stuff walk by it...it does nothing and it taste horrible!  Think nasty cough syrup from your kid days..yuck!  And it doesn't really do much either.  All that nastiness for nothing.  So the day is going on and I am feeling worse and worse..before I left school I decided to call off.  All I was doing was blowing my nose.

The poor kid that I am tutoring after school probably thought I was annoying.  I must have gone through a quarter of my tissue box while working with him for an hour.  I headed home and slept.  No running on Wednesday.

Thursday I have now gone through 1 1/2 boxes of tissues.  Hello!  My nose is not supposed to be a faucet!  I hate not be able to breathe.  I will take pretty much anything! else other than a stuffy nose.  Some odd reason I really love breathing.  I found myself in a benadryl coma for most of Thursday.  Nothing beats a good coma day.

Friday and I am able to breathe better, but I still have an annoying cough.  I think I may try and run a few miles around the hood tomorrow and see how I feel.  I can't let another beautiful day go by without putting on my running shoes.

Tonight my mom and stepdad are  coming over to my house.  They are heading out on a cruise and I am dog sitting. Riley is going to be so excited to see his friend Charlie

So if I end up not running much tomorrow I will have two dogs to play with and walk.

Up Next: Army 10 Miler

Tomorrow I will be running the Army 10 miler.
This will be my second year running this race.  I really liked this race last year (might be my favorite 10 mile race to date).  I love the crowd support.  I love seeing all of the wounded warriors running.  I just like the atmosphere.  I will say I do hate the bridge at the end.  The endless bridge with no crowd support..yuck!

I am hoping that I will be able to breathe tomorrow during the run.  I have been sick all week with a head cold.  I am now just hacking and sniffling..so I should be fine...hopefully. If not I guess I will be walking lots of the 10 miles tomorrow.  I don't feel like that will be my fate, but I haven't ran all week either..so we will see.  I was hoping that this would be the race that I PR but I am thinking that it just might not be in the cards tomorrow..we will see.

Megan is running the race too ( I know shocker!)  and our friend Glenn will be running his first ten miler tomorrow.  So exciting!  And I am sure we will see some run club people too.  Bill is supposed to be around the tents so maybe this year we will actually be able to find him.

Megan and I already picked up our packets yesterday after school, so today all I have to do is rest up and then head out for some pre-race dinner with Megan.

Driving to the expo we realized that we were probably following an army ten mile person. They seemed a bit confused just like us. Every turn they made, we ended up making the same turn.  At one point I  missed a turn and we got turned around and we were yelling, find our friends!!  And of course there they were a car ahead.

I made sure to say hi to our new Army ten miler friends. :)  Not sure if they got the humor of the situation like Megan and I did, but oh well.

When we walked into the expo to pick up our packets here is what we were greeted with...

Can't say many races offer this kind of music.
Then we were off to pick up our bibs.
Opps Megan ended up dropping an entire box of safety pins.  Yikes!
It was a great expo.  We got there with 45 mins to shop.  We stayed the entire 45 mins to see if we could find any good deals.  After the expo we headed off to find some food.  We ended up in Crystal City and ate some very yummy hamburgers, fries and a yummy  milkshake.
Who could say no to a burger and a cookies and cream milkshake?  Not I!

breathing vs 6 mile run

I'm getting over being sick.  I decided to push my 6 mile run from Saturday to Sunday.  My Friday night and Saturday consisted of laying on the couch and drinking Nyquil.

Since I was high on Nquil and Musinex I thought it smart to push the 6 mile run until Sunday.

Sunday rolls around and I'm feeling so much better than Friday and Saturday.  Yeah!!  No sinus headache, not coughing nearly as much.  Perfect day for a run.  I decide that since I'm not 100% I would head to the gym to eliminate the outside factor of the run.

I get to the gym and find my treadmill without any problem.  Sunday afternoon is not the high demand time at the gym.  I hop on and start to run.  I guess my lungs didn't feel like running 6 miles because a half mile was feeling really hard.  Turns out I forgot to ask my lungs if they were up for a run..turns out they were anti-running today.  I did 1 1/2 miles and then jumped on the bike.  I will try to run again on Monday after the teacher workday.  I guess breathing won over 6 miles today..we will see about tomorrow :)

2 weeks till the 10 miler and 3 till the 1/2 marathon..should I start running now??

So the kids at school gave me my first bout of strep.  Yeah me!  I know hard to believe I work with kids and it has taken me this long to contract strep...what can I say I am a pink eye sort of girl ;)  So needless to say I haven't been running.  I thought I had the flu on Thursday night (exhausted, headache, sore throat and fever) and the sore throat just didn't clear up over the weekend, so it took me till Sunday to go to the doctor to find out that I had strep..looks like another sick day on Monday.

So with such a short time before I run the cherry blossom 10 miler and then the next weekend the Flying Pirate 1/2 marathon in OBX.  I think I might have to cancel running club this evening....grrr...I really like running club.  I figure this will get me to bed early (This will be the first day back to work and I have been taking lots of naps and getting up really late for the last 5 days).  I also figure that I can attempt a 6 mile run tonight and then come home and go to bed.  Then 4 or 5 miles on Wed...Zumba on Thursday and long run either Friday after work or Saturday morning before Kristi and the my favorite nieces come to visit on Saturday.  Then next week some 5 mile runs with a 9 mile run next weekend...Hopefully that will get me on some sort of track before all the races.  At this point with all of training lack of running I am hoping to finish alive.

Well looks like I am off to work.  Hope everyone has a great day :)

down for the count

Well the kids at school have infected me again!  I already had the flu once but now I am lucky enough to have it a second time (at least I think it is the flu)  I have a sore throat, headache, had a fever but that is gone and an upset stomach.  Thanks kids for ruining running this week!  I have an ugly Christmas sweater party on Sat, hope I am cured by then...I have been ill since Monday so I am hoping that tomorrow is the turn around day.  Fingers crossed.
